About Me

Angelika Villarroel

Angelika Villarroel

I'm a sophomore interior design student at Ball State University with a passion for creating spaces that serve the people who use them. I enjoy bringing nature and fluidity into my designs to create environments that feel both calming and inspiring.

Why Interior Design

I have always been drawn to well-designed spaces, and their influence onto how people feel, move, and connect. Growing up, my family's continuous search for a home brought me to truly appreciate the importance of thoughtful design. It gave me an introduction of how to think creatively about space and form. Additionally, by participating in the AIA Indiana High School Architecture and Design competition during my junior year of high school, it showed me the path of professional design work and its process. Interior design allows me to combine creative thinking with practical solutions — turning an empty room into an environment that supports the way people live and work.

What I Want to Do

I'm interested in both commercial and residential interiors, with a particular curiosity about the effects of interiors on human health, sustainability, and biophilic design. I'd love to explore internship opportunities that allow me to gain experience in these areas, while also developing my skills in space planning, material selection, and 3D visualization.

Personal Interests

Outside of the studio, I enjoy hiking, exploring National Parks, and traveling to explore new experiences. I've always thought of the outdoors as my happy place, where it shows me more deep and meaningful ways to create peace in my life. One of my favorite past times also includes spending time with my cat Iroh, who is a constant companion in my design journey.
